If you are looking for that one thing that can bring your space together, look no further than lighting. Your lighting design can be the one component to your entire home remodel that gives every space its uniqueness, comfort and richness, if it is done right. On the other hand, you can pay a lot of money for nice tile that is washed out with the wrong lighting. Thinking through how you will use your space and how you want to feel in your space is a good place to start with lighting design.
Here are three aspects of lighting you should be designing around:
Task lighting - this is lighting used anywhere that you will be working on something for a period of time and need the proper light to see what you are doing without flooding the entire room.
Accent lighting - this is lighting to showcase an item - under the cabinet lighting is a good example here. Creating a mood for the room is the goal with any kind of accent lighting
General lighting - this is just filling the space with light. You can look to canned lights to accomplish this goal.
Speaking of canned lighting, currently MR16 cans are the best option for creating a great general lighting design while LED lighting can be used in other areas. Our hope is for cans to eventually catch up with LED technology in order to get the best of both worlds.
